The Mu Nu chapter was founded on April 24, 1976 at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. The eight (8) man charter line was formed with the assistance of the Gamma Eta Lambda (Austin alumni), Delta (Huston-Tillotson College), and Epsilon Iota (University of Texas) chapters. These eight men, known as "The People's Choice", are Brothers Keith Brown, James Fletcher, Willie Harris, Bernard Jones, Joseph Lenzy, Michael Ussery, Calvin Williams, and Joel Williams.

By living up to the high standards of Alpha Phi Alpha the Mu Nu chapter soon became one of the premier fraternal organizations on campus. Our chapter and its members have accomplished various tasks and received many awards through our "manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind". Brothers of the Mu Nu chapter founded and helped found numerous student organizations at Texas State University (formerly SWT) including Black Student Alliance, Kamaazi, the Judo Club, Black Men United, Gospel Expressions Association, National Student Business League, and Eboni Players. Through leadership and community service we continue to have a great impact on campus and the San Marcos community.

Currently there have been over 121 men initiated into the Mu Nu chapter, and we have also been the home to brothers who have transferred from other chapters. From our early days known as the "Mystifying" Mu Nu to the Mu Nu Militia at present, we have always proved to be "the college of friendship, the university of brotherly love, and the school for the better making of men."
